Who can I teach yoga to after getting certified?

After completing Aruna Yoga’s 200hr Foundation Training, you’ll be qualified to teach Yoga and Meditation as weekly classes, retreats, workshops, one-to-one sessions and any other form you choose to share yoga and mediation in. Our graduates teach in yoga studios, community centres, workplaces, and online. Some focus on specific groups like beginners, older adults, or those seeking a more embodied, mindful practice. Your training gives you a strong, adaptable foundation which you can always add to with our specialised trainings such as Chair Yoga.

What should I look for in a Yoga Teacher Training?

Look for a training that aligns with your values and feels right to you. Consider:

  • Are the teachers experienced?

  • Do you like the teacher’s vibe?

  • Is the curriculum comprehensive — covering asana, anatomy, philosophy, and the art of teaching?

  • The length - will you have enough time to actually learn and digest the content?

  • Will you be supported, and guided in your growth — not just as a teacher, but as a human being?

  • Is it certified? (usually Yoga Alliance Professionals or Yoga Alliance)

At Aruna Yoga, we maintain a high level of excellence in our trainings ensuring all of our teachers are skilled and experienced. Our 200hr has a very high ratio of tutors and assistants to participants (roughly 1 to 4 depending on the year)

Do I need previous teaching experience?

Not at all! You don’t need any prior teaching experience to join. What you do need is a genuine interest in yoga and a willingness to explore and grow. We’ll guide you every step of the way.

Do I need previous yoga experience?

I would say yes! Before you commit 200hrs of your life you want to be sure you like and enjoy yoga! There is no minimum experience level and during the training you will have a personal practise and attend classes to support you however some previous yoga experience is recommended.

Do I need to become a teacher after the Teacher Training?

Absolutely not! Many people take the training for personal growth, deeper understanding of yoga, or to reconnect with themselves. The tools you’ll learn can support your life whether or not you choose to teach. And if you do feel called to share yoga later on, you’ll be well prepared.

Can I do this course while working full time?

Yes, many of our students work full-time while completing the 200hr training. The course is designed with real life in mind, offering a balance of structure, flexibility, and support.

Your commitment is one day a month in person, a weekly live online meeting, a few hours of pre-recorded material or assignments a week. You can hear from the grads here about how they balanced work and their 200hr Yoga Teacher Training.

I want to teach but I also want to keep my full time job, can I do this?

Yes, it’s absolutely possible to become a yoga teacher while keeping your full-time job. Many of our graduates teach part-time, offering classes in the evenings, on weekends, or weaving yoga into their existing profession. The training helps you shape a teaching path that works for your life.

What is a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training?

A 200hr training is the foundational certification recognised internationally as the first level of qualification for yoga teachers. You are fully qualified to teach yoga after a 200hr training. It covers the key areas of yoga:

  • Meditation

  • Asana (poses) practice and teaching

  • Anatomy and physiology

  • Yoga philosophy and ethics

  • Breath (pranayama)

  • Teaching methodology and practise

Aruna’s training goes deeper — weaving in somatic and embodied practices, trauma-awareness and personal reflection so you grow as both a practitioner and a teacher.

Where can I teach after being certified?

Once certified, you can teach yoga classes anywhere!, for example in studios, gyms, wellness centres, workplaces, community spaces, and online. Many of our graduates also start their own offerings — from small group classes to specialised workshops or retreats. As an Aruna Yoga and Yoga Alliance certified 200hr teacher, you’ll be eligible to register and teach anywhere in the world.

What does certification mean?

When you complete the Aruna Yoga 200hr training, you’ll receive a certificate that allows you to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200). This means your training meets international standards for safety, ethics, and teaching skills — giving you the credibility and confidence to teach professionally.

Online vs In-Person Training – What’s the difference?

At Aruna Yoga we operate a blended approach which gives you the best of both worlds. In person training is really useful for seeing the poses on a variety of people and for working together. You really build a community and life long connections in a way that you just can’t online. It is also more dynamic allowing for questions and inquiries to be answered throughout. We have some material pre-recorded online so when you first meet it you can digest it at your own pace and fit it into your life in a way that suits you.
